Texas State University Student Arrested for Starting Deadly San Marcos Apartment Fire

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the 2018 Iconic Village apartment fire in San Marcos, Texas, that killed five people. Jacobe De Leon O Shea Ferguson, now 30, has been charged with first-degree felony arson causing bodily injury or death. The fire, which spread to two buildings, started with a lit mattress in a first-floor breezeway. Investigators learned that Ferguson had a tie to the mattress and was intoxicated and upset over finances and romantic rejection on the night of the fire. The arrest came after the Texas Rangers provided a "fresh set of eyes" and re-examined the evidence. Additional charges are possible.
