Swan Tragedies in New York: Rescues, Thefts, and Arrests

Three teenagers were arrested in connection with the theft of a swan and her four cygnets from a pond in Manlius, New York. The cygnets were recovered, but the mother swan, Faye, was eaten. Mute swans like Faye and her mate, Manny, are considered invasive by wildlife officials. The suspects, aged 16, 17, and 18, face charges including grand larceny and criminal mischief. Two of the suspects were released to their parents because they are juveniles, while the third is awaiting arraignment.
