Suspect in Sunland Park police shooting identified

Tony Gomez, a 33-year-old man, has been identified as the suspect who shot a Sunland Park police officer while responding to a domestic violence call in Santa Teresa, New Mexico. Gomez was arrested on over a dozen charges, including abuse of a child, kidnapping, and attempted murder. Witnesses reported that Gomez fired around 50 rounds with an assault rifle before retreating into his home, where he surrendered to authorities after 45 minutes. The officer was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
