Suspect in Custody After Shooting of Wilbraham Police Officer

A 29-year-old Wilbraham police officer was shot by 53-year-old Michael Ortega during a standoff at a home on Old Carriage Road. After exchanging gunfire, Ortega barricaded himself inside the house, leading to an hours-long standoff. State Police's Special Tactical Operations rescued two occupants who escaped onto the roof, and Ortega was eventually found in the home with gunshot wounds and taken into custody. He is in stable condition and faces charges of assault with intent to murder and assault with a dangerous weapon. The incident is under investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies.
