"Subway Vigilante Arrested for Firing Shots to Stop Robbery in NYC"

A vigilante in Manhattan subway station opened fire during a robbery attempt, yelling "Get away from her!" at the would-be mugger. The vigilante, John Rote, was arrested without a struggle and admitted to pulling the trigger before tossing the gun in the East River. The alleged mugger, Matthew Roesch, held the emergency gate open for his victim and demanded money. Rote warned Roesch to leave the woman alone, then pulled out a gun and fired shots.
