Spate of Violent Subway Attacks in NYC Leaves Police Clueless.

Despite overall crime on the NYC subway system trending downward, recent high-profile crimes have left riders feeling nervous. Misdemeanor assaults are up 16.5% compared to last year, and petit larceny is up more than 25%. However, major felonies are down by more than 6%. The MTA and NYPD have increased police presence in response to recent incidents, and there are no plans to reduce that infusion. Riders still have safety concerns, especially in the evening.
