Serial Killer Targeting Homeless Population Apprehended in Los Angeles

The suspect in the fatal shootings of three homeless people in Los Angeles has been identified as Jerrid Joseph Powell, who was already in custody for the murder of a San Dimas resident during a follow-home robbery. Powell was formally arrested for the killings of the three unhoused men, who were shot while sleeping alone on a sidewalk or alley. The suspect allegedly followed one of his victims from a charging station in West Covina to his home in San Dimas, where he robbed and shot him. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department tracked down Powell's vehicle using automatic license plate scanners, leading to his arrest. A handgun recovered from his vehicle was found to be the same weapon used in the three killings. Authorities are investigating if Powell may be connected to other crimes.
