Sentencing for Anthony Avalos' mother and boyfriend in torture-murder case.

Heather Maxine Barron and Kareem Ernesto Leiva are facing life in prison without parole for the torture and murder of Barron's 10-year-old son, Anthony Avalos. The two were convicted of first-degree murder and torture in a non-jury trial after waiving their right to a jury. The judge found that the couple "worked together to abuse Anthony" and that the boy died from severe dehydration and blunt force trauma to the head. The two were also convicted of two counts of child abuse involving the boy's half-siblings.
