Police supervisor retires with benefits before Tyre Nichols' termination hearing.

Memphis police supervisor, Lt. DeWayne Smith, who failed to provide medical care to Tyre Nichols during his arrest and was facing disciplinary charges, retired with benefits the day before his termination hearing. Smith failed to remove Nichols' handcuffs or get him medical care despite hearing him say "I can't breathe." He also failed to obtain reports from other officers about their use of force and violated department policy by not wearing his body camera. Seven officers were fired over Nichols' death, including five charged with second-degree murder, and three members of the Memphis Fire Department were terminated for failing to provide medical care.
