Off-duty Chicago police officer killed in Avalon Park shooting

An off-duty female Chicago police officer was shot and killed in the Avalon Park neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago early Saturday morning. The officer was on her way home from work when she was shot, and was brought to the University of Chicago Medical Center where she later died. The identity of the officer has not yet been released, and there is no one in custody. The Chicago Police Department is investigating the shooting.
