NYPD Uncovers Ghost Guns at East Harlem Day Care

Officials discovered that an East Harlem apartment, licensed as a day care site, was being used to produce 3-D-printed "ghost" guns and their parts. This marks the second time this month that a lethal hazard has been found at a home-based day care in New York City. The discovery has prompted Mayor Eric Adams to review inspection procedures for such sites. Ghost guns, which lack serial numbers and are untraceable, are attractive to individuals who cannot legally purchase firearms. The growing availability of 3-D printers has contributed to the spread of these weapons. A search warrant executed at the apartment led to the seizure of a 3-D printer, finished and nearly finished 3-D-printed guns, gun-making tools, and components. The son of the day care operator, Karon J. Coley, was charged with weapons-related counts and acting in a manner injurious to a child. The investigation is ongoing.
