New Orleans Crime Surge Sparks Fear Among Women Residents.

Women in New Orleans are fearful of leaving their homes alone at night amid the city's violent crime surge, according to a long-time resident. New Orleans has seen a dramatic spike in violent crime over the past few years, with the most homicides per capita among major US cities in September 2023. Carjackings and armed robberies have also skyrocketed, and more than 50 people have been killed in the city since the start of the year. A recall campaign against Mayor LaToya Cantrell was launched in response to the city's many problems, including the violent crime surge and crumbling infrastructure, but was squashed after falling short of the required number of signatures.
