Multiple Law Enforcement Officials Charged in Criminal Activity and Kidnapping Plot

Iron County Sheriff Jeff Burkett and two of his deputies have been charged with "criminal street gang activity" for allegedly attempting to help a friend kidnap his daughter after a fight with the child's mother over a $50 bottle of liquor. Burkett is also charged with lying to a 911 dispatcher to report the child's mother had kidnapped the girl and that the child was in danger. The sheriff's attorney claims the charges are politically motivated. The punishment for a single count of the criminal street gang charge alone is up to 15 years in prison.
