Mother's Betrayal: 12-Year-Old Carjacking Suspect Surrendered to Police

The mother of a 12-year-old suspect in an attempted carjacking that resulted in the death of a 13-year-old turned him in to the police. Surveillance video showed the two suspects approaching a car, with both indicating they had weapons. An off-duty security officer fatally shot the 13-year-old, while the 12-year-old fled but was later arrested. The boy's mother recognized him from a released photograph and called the police. The 12-year-old has a history of anger management problems but had never been in trouble with the police before. He is currently detained until his next court hearing. The security officer's gun was legally owned, and the deceased 13-year-old had been previously arrested for armed carjackings.
