Mother of 6-year-old shooter to plead guilty to federal gun charges.

The mother of a 6-year-old boy who brought a gun to school and shot his first-grade teacher in Virginia will plead guilty to federal felony charges of unlawful use of a controlled substance while possessing a firearm and making a false statement while purchasing the firearm. The child will not be charged. The gun was purchased by the mother and kept on the top shelf of her bedroom closet, secured by a trigger lock. The teacher survived the shooting. The mother has also been indicted on state charges of felony child neglect and recklessly leaving a firearm to endanger a child.
