Maryland man charged with capital murder for Wintergreen police officer's death.

A man from Maryland has been charged with capital murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and two felony counts of malicious wounding after allegedly fatally shooting Wintergreen Police Officer Mark Christopher ‘Chris’ Wagner and assaulting two other men. The incident began when the Wintergreen Police Department received an emergency call about the suspect assaulting two other men at the residence they were staying at. Wagner was the first to arrive at the residence and encountered the suspect in the woods, where a struggle followed, and the suspect took Wagner’s department-issued handgun and shot and killed the officer. The investigation remains active.
