Man arrested for assaulting former San Francisco fire commissioner

Garret Doty, 24, was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and battery causing serious bodily injury after attacking former San Francisco fire commissioner Don Carmignani with a metal pipe and knife, leaving him with a fractured skull and jaw, and knife cuts on his face. Carmignani's father, Ray Carmignani, said he is fed up with the city and plans to leave. Supervisor Catherine Stefani expressed outrage over the attack and blamed it on inadequate police staffing.
