"Judge Affirms Grave Charges in Fatal Arrest of Black Motorist Ronald Greene"

A judge has upheld the most serious charge of negligent homicide against a white Louisiana trooper involved in the deadly 2019 arrest of Ronald Greene, a Black motorist. The trooper was captured on body-camera video dragging Greene by his ankle shackles and forcing him to lie facedown in the dirt. The judge ruled that the prosecution's blunder in allowing a use-of-force expert to review the trooper's statements did not taint the indictment. The case has drawn comparisons to the killings of George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery. Two other troopers still face charges, while a former deputy sheriff faces two counts of malfeasance. Calls for federal charges and an indictment from the U.S. Justice Department have also been made.
