Iowa Officer Clings to Car Hood in Dramatic Chase, Suspect Sentenced to 5 Years

Newly released video shows an Iowa police officer clinging to the hood and roof of a car during a wild police chase in 2021. The officer, Patrick McCarty, pulled the car over and informed the passenger, Dennis Guider Jr., that there was a warrant out for his arrest in Illinois. As Guider attempted to drive away, McCarty jumped onto the hood with his gun drawn. Guider continued to drive, causing McCarty to be flung off the car and break his back. Guider pleaded guilty to serious injury by vehicle and was sentenced to up to five years in prison.
