Inmate's Escape Attempt Turns Fatal as Deputy Dies from Handcuff Chain Attack

An inmate in Indianapolis allegedly used the chain of his handcuffs to choke a sheriff's deputy, who later died at the hospital. The attack was captured on video, showing the inmate stepping behind the deputy and choking him until he stopped moving. The inmate then removed his handcuffs, drove off in the jail van, and crashed it into a light pole before being taken into custody. The deputy, identified as John Durm, leaves behind his wife and four children.
