Homeless man sentenced to 27 months for attacking Rep. Angie Craig in elevator

Kendrid Khalil Hamlin, a homeless man, has been sentenced to 27 months in prison for attacking Democratic Rep. Angie Craig in an elevator in her Washington, DC, apartment building. Hamlin also assaulted two law enforcement officers. Craig defended herself by throwing hot coffee at him and escaping. She described the physical and emotional impact of the attack in a victim impact statement. Hamlin's attorney stated that he was battling drug abuse, homelessness, schizophrenia, and mental disabilities at the time of the assault. Craig expressed concerns about his potential threat to others and requested mental health and addiction services for him.
