Funeral Home Owners Face Jail Time in El Paso County

Carie Hallford, one of the owners of the Return to Nature Funeral Home in Penrose, has been processed into the El Paso County Jail on charges of Abuse of a Corpse, Theft, Money Laundering, and Forgery. Her husband, Jon Hallford, was also arrested but his whereabouts are currently unknown. The funeral home is facing a class action lawsuit after almost 200 bodies were found improperly stored, and some families believe they received concrete mix instead of their loved one's ashes. The property will be cleaned up by the EPA, and the Hallfords will be charged a "special assessment" for the expenses incurred.
