"Former Venezuelan Spy Chief Carvajal Extradited to US for Drug Trafficking"

Former Venezuelan spy chief, retired Maj. Gen. Hugo Carvajal, has been extradited from Spain to New York to face drug trafficking charges. Carvajal, who advised Hugo Chávez and later broke with Nicolás Maduro, is accused of coordinating the smuggling of cocaine from Venezuela to Mexico in 2006 and providing weapons to Colombian guerrillas. He had been fighting extradition since his arrest in Spain in 2019 and had delayed the process through appeals and an asylum application.
