Former San Francisco Official Convicted of Fraud in Corruption Case

Former San Francisco utilities chief Harlan Kelly has been found guilty of fraud charges in connection with two alleged schemes. One involved accepting benefits from a businessman seeking contracts, while the other involved misrepresenting debts in a loan application. Kelly was found guilty on four counts related to the loan scheme and two counts related to the benefits he received. Defense attorneys argued that the gifts were not evidence of corruption but rather a result of a personal friendship. Kelly's attorney plans to file motions to dismiss the convictions and, if unsuccessful, to file an appeal. Kelly will return to court for sentencing at a later date.
