Final Trial Begins in Foiled Plot to Kidnap Michigan's Governor

The final trial is set to begin for the last defendants accused of participating in a foiled plot to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer nearly three years ago. The defendants, Eric Molitor and brothers William Null and Michael Null, were among 14 men charged in the scheme, which was motivated by anger over Whitmer's COVID-19 policies. The plotters, described as anti-government extremists, intended to attack the state Capitol and police to ignite a civil war. Nine men have already been convicted, while two were acquitted. The defendants face charges of providing material support for terrorist acts and illegally possessing firearms.
