"Father Charged with Murder in Stabbing Deaths of Wife and Son, Newborn Left Unharmed"

A U.S. military veteran, Jean Carlos Aponte, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder after his wife, Sara Ashley Gama, and 2-year-old son, Ethan Aponte, were found dead in their Plantation home in South Florida. Gama was stabbed 28 times and the toddler was found fatally stabbed in the backyard pool. Aponte, who was found unconscious and later released from the hospital, is being held without bond. The motive is unknown, but a fellow service member mentioned that Aponte was suffering from PTSD and a traumatic brain injury and had sought help for his mental health.
