Fatal Assault: Correctional Officer Murdered by Inmate at Smith State Prison

Correctional Officer Robert Clark has died after being attacked by an inmate at Smith State Prison in Georgia. The inmate assaulted Clark from behind with a homemade weapon while he was escorting two inmates from the dining hall. Another inmate who tried to assist Clark was also assaulted. Clark and the assisting inmate were both taken to local hospitals, but Clark succumbed to his injuries. Layton Lester, the inmate responsible for the attack, will be charged with assault and murder.
