Ex-Minneapolis officer to be sentenced Monday in George Floyd's killing
Tou Thao, the last former Minneapolis police officer to be sentenced in state court for his involvement in the killing of George Floyd, will learn on Monday whether he will face additional prison time. Thao, who was found guilty of aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter, claimed he was merely a "human traffic cone" during the incident. The judge concluded that Thao's actions were objectively unreasonable and that he failed to intervene to stop the excessive use of force by his colleagues. Thao rejected a plea bargain and instead let the judge decide his case based on evidence from other trials. Minnesota guidelines recommend a four-year sentence, which would be served concurrently with his federal civil rights conviction.
