Ex-MBTA Officer Sentenced to Prison for Raping 2 Women on Duty

Former MBTA Transit Police officer Shawn McCarthy has been sentenced to four to six years in state prison, followed by two years of probation, after being convicted of raping two women in his cruiser while on duty near the Museum of Science in 2012. The victims, who were in their early 20s at the time, were offered a joyride by McCarthy and subjected to sexual acts after he threatened not to take them back downtown until he got something out of it. McCarthy resigned from the department after being placed on administrative leave in December 2019.
