'El Mago,' notorious drug kingpin linked to 'El Chapo,' gunned down in LA: officials

Eduardo Escobedo, known as "El Mago," a convicted drug trafficker with ties to cartel druglord "El Chapo," was shot dead in Los Angeles County. Escobedo, who was the primary local marijuana distributor to El Chapo's son, was one of two men killed in the shooting. The other victim, Guillermo De Los Angeles Jr., was also a convicted drug dealer. Escobedo allegedly laundered drug earnings by purchasing exotic cars and shipping them to the cartel's main hub in Culiacan. After serving nearly five years in federal prison, Escobedo was released in 2018.
