Eau Claire Homicide Suspect Found Safe in New Mexico

Shane Helmbrecht, a man charged with homicide in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, who had been found incompetent to stand trial and ordered to stay at a mental health facility, was reported missing from a Tomah group home in September. However, he has now been located safe by the Pojoaque Tribal Police Department near Santa Fe, New Mexico, and released at the direction of Eau Claire County authorities. A new competency exam report was filed in August, and a hearing is scheduled for January.
