Terry Jon Martin, a dying former mobster, was given no prison time for stealing Judy Garland's ruby slippers from the Judy Garland Museum in 2005. Martin, who confessed to the theft, hoped to pull off "one last score" after being persuaded by an old mob associate. He pleaded guilty to theft of a major artwork and is in hospice care, expected to die within six months. Both sides are recommending time served due to his fragile health. The slippers were recovered in 2018, and Martin is ordered to pay $23,500 in restitution to the museum.
