"Deputy killed in Indianapolis escape attempt: Inmate's assault and van crash"

A Marion County Sheriff's Office deputy with nearly four decades of service was killed during an escape attempt at the jail. The suspect assaulted the deputy, stole a transport vehicle, and crashed it into a telephone pole. The deputy, John Durm, died shortly after the attack. The suspect, identified as Orlando Mitchell, will be arrested on a preliminary murder charge. Mitchell is also facing another murder charge from last year. Durm's death comes just days after the funeral of Indiana State Police Trooper Aaron Smith, who was killed in the line of duty.
