Daytona Beach Man Receives Life Sentence for Shooting at Police and Running Dog Fighting Ring

Joseph Calvin Jaynes II, a man armed with an AR-15-style rifle who fired at Daytona Beach police officers, has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of six counts of attempted second-degree murder of a law enforcement officer. No officers were injured in the shooting, but Jaynes was shot in the leg. The incident occurred when police were performing a well-being check and heard a gunshot. When they investigated, they found Jaynes with the rifle and ordered him to drop it, but he instead raised it in their direction and fired at them.
