Colorado Officer Found Guilty of Misdemeanors in Train Collision Case

A Colorado police officer, Jordan Steinke, has been found guilty of reckless endangerment and third-degree assault for placing a handcuffed suspect in a patrol SUV that was hit by a train near Denver last year. However, she was acquitted of a felony charge of criminal attempt to commit manslaughter. Steinke, who waived her right to a jury trial, sobbed after the verdict was read. The incident occurred during a traffic stop where the suspect, Yareni Rios-Gonzalez, was placed in the cruiser of another officer parked on railroad tracks. Rios suffered multiple injuries from the collision. Steinke's sentencing hearing is scheduled for September 15.
