Chicago Man Charged with Murder of Oak Park Detective

Jerrell Thomas, a 37-year-old Chicago man, has been charged with first-degree murder and other offenses after allegedly fatally shooting Oak Park Detective Allan Reddins. The incident occurred when Reddins responded to a call about an armed suspect near a Chase Bank. Reddins, a five-year veteran of the Oak Park Police Department, was pronounced dead at the hospital, marking the department's first line-of-duty death since 1938. Thomas, who has a history of offenses, was also injured and is under treatment. The Illinois State Police Public Integrity Task Force is assisting in the investigation.
