Brooklyn arrest after man impersonates FBI agent to free Mangione

A 36-year-old man, Mark Anderson, was arrested in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn after impersonating an FBI agent and claiming he held paperwork signed by a judge authorizing the release of Luigi Mangione, who is jailed in connection with a December 2024 murder case; Anderson displayed a Minnesota driver’s license, threatened weapons, and had a bag with a large barbecue fork and a round steel blade. Mangione's case is separate and there’s no indication he was aware of the attempt; Anderson is being held in the MDC's Special Housing Unit.
