Boston Mayor Wu Apologizes for Wrongful Arrests in Charles Stuart Case

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu issued a formal apology to the Bennett family and Boston's Black community for the unjust treatment they endured during the Charles Stuart case, where they were publicly identified as suspects in the 1989 murder of Carol DiMaiti Stuart. The apology comes after an extensive investigation and HBO docu-series into the case. Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox also apologized for the department's poor investigation, overzealous behavior, and unconstitutional actions during the manhunt. The Bennett family and one of the suspects called for financial compensation. The city plans to take further actions to address the wrongs committed.
