Arrested Billings Man Raises Security Concerns with Gun Display near School

Gabriel Cowan Metcalf, a Billings man, has been arrested and charged with illegally possessing a gun within a school zone after displaying a rifle on his property across from Broadwater Elementary School. Despite concerns from parents and school officials, local police were unable to take legal action as they believed no state laws were being broken. Federal prosecutors argued that the area in front of Metcalf's residence is considered a "school zone" under federal law. If convicted, Metcalf faces up to five years in prison, a $100,000 fine, and three years of supervised release.
