Arrest Made in Texas Teen's Strangling and Sexual Assault Case

Juan Carlos Garcia Rodriguez, an 18-year-old Guatemalan migrant, has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting and strangling an 11-year-old Texas girl, Maria Gonzalez. Rodriguez, who crossed the US border in January, was apprehended in Louisiana after being on the run for nearly a week. He confessed to the crime. The victim's body was found stuffed in a laundry bag under her bed. Rodriguez had accidentally dropped his apartment key at the crime scene, linking him to the murder. He is now facing charges of capital murder and awaits extradition back to Texas. Maria's family expressed relief at the arrest and called for justice to be served.
