Alex Murdaugh placed in protective custody at maximum security SC prison after conviction.

Convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh has completed his evaluation process and has been moved to an undisclosed protective custody unit in a South Carolina maximum-security prison. The SCDC's Protective Custody Review Board recommended statewide protective custody classification for Murdaugh, who was convicted on double murder charges in March 2022. Inmates in this unit have validated protective concerns and are placed in a specialized unit to separate them from the general population. Murdaugh will be in a single eight by ten cell that contains a bed, toilet, and sink.
