Accused killers of family members die awaiting trial in federal custody.

Nathan Carman, a Vermont man charged with killing his mother at sea in a scheme to inherit millions of dollars, has died awaiting trial. He was also accused of killing his wealthy grandfather in 2013 to obtain money and property from his estate. The cause of Carman’s death is not yet clear. His defense team had been preparing for trial in October and had denied all allegations against him. Prosecutors say the inheritance scheme spanned nearly a decade and began with Carman buying a rifle in New Hampshire, which he used to shoot his grandfather while he slept.
