Accused kidnapper caught attempting jailbreak after holding woman captive in makeshift dungeon

Negasi Zuberi, the Oregon man accused of holding a woman captive in a makeshift dungeon, has been charged with second-degree attempted escape and first-degree disorderly conduct after being caught trying to escape jail. Zuberi was arrested after a woman escaped from his home, where she had been kidnapped from Seattle, sexually assaulted, and placed in a makeshift cell in his garage. He pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping and transportation with intent to engage in sexual activity. Zuberi was discovered standing on his bunk bed near a chipped window in his cell, and an improvised tool was found. His federal trial is scheduled to begin on October 17.
