"Foreign Exchange Student Rescued in Utah Amidst Cyber Kidnapping Investigation"

A 17-year-old Chinese exchange student, Kai Zhuang, was found by Utah police after being the victim of a "cyber-kidnapping" scam. Zhuang was reported missing when his parents in China received a ransom photo and paid $80,000 to the kidnappers. He was discovered in a tent in the mountains, following the kidnappers' instructions to isolate himself. Zhuang was safe but cold and scared, with no major medical concerns. The FBI has noted that this type of scam has targeted other foreign exchange students in the U.S. Riverdale police, the FBI, the US embassy in China, and Chinese officials collaborated in the investigation.
