"Chinese Exchange Student Found in Utah After 'Cyber Kidnapping' Ordeal, Police Investigate"

Kai Zhuang, a 17-year-old foreign exchange student from China, was found safe in a tent in Utah after being reported missing in a suspected case of "cyber kidnapping." His family in China had received a photo of him appearing to be held captive and had paid ransom money to the alleged kidnappers. Zhuang had been instructed by the cyber kidnappers to isolate himself and simulate captivity to extort his family. He was found by a Riverdale police detective, cold and scared but without major medical issues, and the investigation is ongoing. Riverdale police are urging anyone targeted by cyber kidnapping to contact authorities and not to send money to the perpetrators.
