"Armed Standoff in Southeast Portland Ends with Suspect in Custody"

Stephen W. Sherrill, 35, was arrested after menacing people with a gun and engaging in a standoff with police in Southeast Portland. The incident began Friday night and concluded early Saturday morning when police used an aerosol irritant to apprehend Sherrill after hours of negotiation. The area was closed off and some apartments were evacuated during the standoff. Sherrill faces three counts of menacing and is booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center.
