"Dying Mobster Spared Prison for Stealing 'Wizard of Oz' Ruby Slippers"

Dying mobster Terry Jon Martin, who stole the iconic ruby slippers from "The Wizard of Oz" in 2005, confessed to the theft but won't go to prison due to his hospice care and health condition. He claimed he didn't know the slippers' cinematic significance at the time. The slippers, insured for $1 million and appraised at $3.5 million, were recovered in 2018 and are now at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. Martin's sentencing was unusually light, and he was also asked to pay $23,500 to the museum.
