"Arrest Made in Murder of Moody County Chief Deputy Sheriff"

Joseph Hoek of Sioux Falls is charged with first degree murder and aggravated in the death of Chief Deputy Sheriff Ken Prorok, who was killed during a high-speed chase. An eyewitness saw Hoek intentionally swerve and hit Prorok, and then held Hoek until authorities arrived. Hoek's mother stated he was suffering from mental health issues and self-medicating. The suspect may face life in prison or the death penalty if found guilty. Prorok's funeral arrangements are underway, and law enforcement agencies are mourning the loss of a dedicated officer.
