"Surge in Unruly Passengers Prompts FBI Involvement, FAA Reports"

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has referred over three dozen unruly passengers to the FBI for potential criminal charges in 2023, including cases of physical and sexual assault. In the second quarter of this year alone, the FAA sent 22 new cases to the FBI for criminal prosecution review. The FAA's zero-tolerance policy for unruly behavior on flights, implemented in 2021, has resulted in heavy fines and jail time for offenders. While the number of incidents has decreased by 80% since 2021, unacceptable behavior continues to occur.
