Maine pet store raccoon euthanized after being kissed

A baby raccoon brought into a Petco in Maine to have its nails trimmed was handled and kissed by multiple customers, potentially exposing them to rabies. The raccoon had to be euthanized to test for rabies, which came back negative. It is illegal to possess wildlife such as raccoons in Maine, and Petco does not trim raccoon nails. The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife reminded people to "Keep Wildlife Wild" and "If you care, leave them there."
